DAY 21: COUNTDOWN

Today is day 21 at GAETI. Today we learned how to write grants. I feel a lot more comfortable writing grants now. I really enjoyed seeing all of my co-participants again. We also learned about how they are using new technology in their classrooms. I've learned a lot at GAETI and look forward to day 22.

Day 20: The End

Today is day 20 at GAETI. We are at the end of the institute. It's bitter sweet because  I've met so many wonderful teachers this summer.  I will miss seeing them. I hope we will stay in touch. I 'm planning to come back in September and March for the follow up. I hope everyone has a great school year.

I'm thankful that I was chosen to participate in this institute because I've learned so much. Can't wait to use  all of what I learned this year. The End!!!

Day: 19

Today is day 19 at GAETI. We presented our art projects today. I was amazed at how great everyone's art work turned out. I'm nervous about presenting my lesson, however.  I've learned a lot. I'm amazed at the friendships that were formed this month.

Day 18: quiz

Today is day 18 at GAETI. This morning we learned about some new mind mapping websites. We also learned about Infographic, Socrative, and many other websites for creating online quizzes. We have learned so much in such a short period of time. I know that I will have to practice using many of the technology tools we have learned in order to feel comfortable about using them.

This afternoon, we were able to finish working on our power points and webpages. I hope that I have done a good job.  I am looking forward to day 19. Bye for now!!

Day 17: GAETI Projects

Today is day 17 here at GAETI. This morning will learned how to use Prezi. This looks to be a great  power point alternative.  We also learned about many educational apps that are available on ipads.

This afternoon we were able to complete our lesson plans and power point presentations. We also learned how to create a newspaper using Google Docs. I believe this is going to be a great week. Looking forward to day 18.

Day 16: Finishing Up

Today is day 16  at GAETI. This morning we learned more about the Canvas LMS technology tool. We also created a webquest for our classrooms. After lunch we continued to work on our art projects, lesson plans, and power point presentations for Friday. I'm learning so much. I'm getting excited to share what I've learned with my students. Looking forward to day 17.

Day 15: Create a Video Presentation

Today is day 15 at GAETI. It was quite a day! We are learning so many new tech skills. We started off learning Tackk. We learned to create a video in power point, and finished with a you tube video.  I'm excited to start using all these new skills in the upcoming year. I'm also glad to have finished my abstract art project. Looking forward to Monday.

Day 14: Canvas Learning

Today is day 14 at GAETI. We began the morning with Dr. Lee. He demonstrated how to use an LMS system called Canvas. I looks complicated to learn, however, I believe that we will learn it quickly. I feel  Canvas will be a good technology tool to use in the classroom.

The afternoon ended with an art project, followed by a lesson on Camtasia Studio. Look forward to day 15.

Day 13: Flat Stanley

Today at GAETI we learned  about Canvas.  Canvas is the official Learning Management System for Eastern Florida State College with online classrooms for E-Learning/online classes, hybrid classes and face-to face classroom instruction. After lunch we continued to work on our abstract art projects. We also created our video Flat Stanley Project. I am excited to edit our video and continue to learn here at GAETI,

Day 12: Lesson Plans

This morning we focused on lesson planning. We learned how to create our lessons by backward design. This means that a teacher should first choose the learning objective and standard. Next the teacher should choose the resources needed for the objective, materials, activities, and desired results of lesson, etc. We also learned how to use a new technology called Plicker to assess students. We also used a tool called Bubbl to create a mind map.  I will use Bubble to access students prior knowledge  Here is an example of one I am working on for a lesson called Electing The President. "I hope to use this as an introduction to the lesson".




After lunch we worked on our abstract art projects and leaned how to fuse glass. I really enjoyed learning the technology projects I can take back to use in my class. Looking forward to day 13.

Day: 11 Rides

Today we learned a lot about Chinese culture. We learned about how different Chinese life is compared to U.S. We also learned how to make rockets using the foam pipe cleaners.  The Rides workshop was very hands-on and exciting. I will use the rocket building when I teach a unit on Space with my gifted students. I will incorporate all the subject areas into this lesson.

We also learned how to build bridges using balsam wood. We had to work together in pairs. This is a good team building exercise. I will also use the bridge building to teach teamwork, engineering, and math skills. I am looking forward to day 12.

Day 10: Business

Today we learned how to supplement our income as an educator. We learned the steps needed to start our own businesses. We also learned how to create game boards in Excel. All the sessions we are participating in have been very useful. The session materials will be easy to incorporate in our classes.

I'm excited to start using all of what I've learned next school year. I feel that the things I am learning will be very beneficial to myself and my students. Looking forward to Day 11.

Day 9: Create

Today is day 9 at GAETI.  We are learning a lot. Today we've been working on our abstract art projects. We're learning to work with different art media. We are also learning a lot about civil rights and Native Americans in Mississippi. We've also learned a lot of technology skills. I am looking forward to day 10.

Day 8: Geography

Today is day 8 of GAETI. We took a tour of the Department of Geoscience (Hilburn Hall).  We were able to see the training that Meteorologist have to go through in order to learn to broadcast the weather.  We were able to train with the "green screen" . It definitely takes a lot of practice in order to fill comfortable in front of the camera.

Mr. Nick Timmerman presented an eye opening lesson of Native American History. It was interesting and informative. I am enjoying all  of the presentations. Looking forward to day 9.

Day 7: Power Point

Today at GAETI we took a tour of the TK Martin Center for Technology & Disabilities. I was not aware of all the services available for the hearing impaired , as well as, the visually impaired. I also enjoyed participating in the ABCs of Managing Inappropriate Behavior presentation. During the presentation, we learned many positive behavior techniques that can be used for any age and any grade classroom.

Today we also learned some Power Point Essentials that will be quite helpful for my classroom presentations. I can't wait for Day 8.

Day 6: Technology

Today at GAETI2016 we learned how to create a website. This is the first time I have ever created a website. Scary! I found out that I didn't know as much about technology as I thought. I also learned more about creating power point presentations. Looking forward to Day 7.

Day 5: Library Tour

Today we took a tour of the MSU library. We learned about all of the resources available to us. We also learned a lot about lesson planning. The highlight of the day was to Skype with a teacher from Taiwan. Great learning experience! Looking for to Day 6.

Day 4: Field Trip

Day 4 of GAETI. We took a field trip to a local coal mine. We learned all the processes needed in order to mine lignite. We found out a lot about the types of jobs that are available as well. We also learned how well the land is put back into it's original state once the mining in that area ceases.  I really enjoyed learning about the coal mining industry. Looking forward to Day 5.

Day 3: New Experience

Today is day 3 at GAETI. I find out today how to incorporate Google Maps and Google Earth into my classroom. I thoroughly enjoyed learning the different elements of Google Earth and Google Maps. I've also enjoyed getting to know all of my co-teachers who are part of the GAETI institute. I've meet a lot of really nice people this week.  We are becoming part of a team now. We're finding that learning from each other brings out every persons unique strengths and talents.

Today we got a chance to discover the elements of web page designs. A lot of thought and hard work goes into creating webpages. We also learned about high and low pressure as it relates to the equator. Can't wait to see what happens on day 4.

Day2: Exporation

Day 2 of Gaeti. I really enjoyed today. I enjoyed the tours of the Charles H. Tempelton Music Museum, as well as, the Ulysses S. Grant Library. I learned a lot about how music has progressed through the years. I really learned a lot about Grant and his family as well. Our teachers really put a lot of time and effort into the lessons. The geography lessons were great! I will incorporate many of the lessons Dr. Sherman Morris taught us today. We are learning so much about the changes to the CCRS standards. Looking forward to day 3.

Day 1: Welcome/Introduction

Started GAETI2016 today. I've meet a lot of interesting teachers today.  I'm looking forward to tomorrow. Today I learned how to blog for the first time. Never blogged before! I also learned about a new database  that I can use in my classroom. My goals through GAETI are to learn about the latest technology skills that I can take back to my class and incorporate. I want to feel more comfortable about using technology in my classroom. I am confident that GAETI will teach me all the skills I need.
